The last episode of Season 1 is Mariel: Millennial Stereotype OR Magnanimous Soul? In this interview we talk about the cultural, familial + personal narratives that have shaped Mariel's story, including: her obligations to an emotionally absent father with Alzheimer's; her important, other-oriented work by day + passion for food by night; and, her rage against the stereotype that characterizes her generation as lazy, selfish + entitled.

The multi-part Pinch of Yum series Mariel mentions starts here. It's worth exploring the relevant ~250 #feedingabrokenheart posts as well.

The 7th episode of Compelling Women is Nicole: Pro @ Leaning In to Parenthood + Public Relations. There's a lot of talk about how the rich + powerful manage work-life balance, but it's rarely of value to the average woman, who has limited time + resources. Nicole is an excellent, everyday example of a woman who has a successful career, two small children + a husband who travels quite a bit on business -- but somehow she makes it all look uncomplicated. This interview is a deep dive into why what looks like effortless work-life balance actually take a lot of effort.

Judith: Priest + Persecuted

Episode 6 is Judith: Priest + Persecuted. Judith is a remarkable retired Episcopal priest, whose life story generally and journey into the priesthood specifically have more twists + turns / ups + downs than a roller coaster. It's a story of pain, purpose, persecution + perseverance. But it's also a story of providence, which makes it a fascinating interview from beginning to end.

Angela: Victim + Victorious

In the third episode of the podcast, we shift gears yet again -- because some of the Compelling Women are extraordinary not because of what they do professionally, but because of what they endure personally.

Angela's story is both unique and, sadly, all too common. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men are victims of violence by an intimate partner. Angela is part of this statistic, which is why parts of this interview are messy, even raw. But she has thoroughly rewritten her story since this incident, which is why the interview ends with laughter and a focus on love and light.

I can never thank her enough for bravely sharing her story with us.

If you'd like to donate to an organization that supports domestic violence victims, Angela recommends YWCA of Nashville, TN and House of Ruth Maryland. For a limited time, she is helping raising money for the YWCA. To donate to this fundraiser specifically, you can click here, select 'domestic violence' and donate in tribute to Angela.

In the next episode of the Compelling Women podcast, we hear from Morgan: a sheltered, suburban dreamer turned enlightened, urban doer. Morgan envisioned a life being married to a pastor or serving as a suburban youth minister, but ended up married to a former 'bad dude', working with some of the most vulnerable populations in the city of Savannah, GA.

Special thanks to Morgan, for her willingness to be a part of this project, and to Glenn, her husband, for allowing us to tell his story as well. You can find out more about their work at the Dream Campaign here.
